Services

Individual and Couples Psychotherapy

I offer psychodynamic therapy to individuals, couples based on extensive graduate and post-graduate training and experience. I work on a range of issues and deeper questions that bring people to therapy, including relationship issues, depression and anxiety, questions of racial and cultural identity, relational trauma, grief, adoption and others.

Leadership Development

I teach leadership at NYU and coach a professionals at all levels on how to build leadership capacity in themselves and in their organizations. I also offer consulting to companies and non-profits looking to grow their capacity for distributed leadership. My teaching and coaching emphasizes the idea that leadership is not inborn, but can be learned and practiced.

Groups

In addition to individual and couples psychotherapy, I offer a range of support groups on various topics including: leadership development, parenting, mixed-race/cultural identity and career change. Groups are generally 8-10 week experiences that help facilitate learning and personal growth on the topic and provide a chance to connect and bond with others around shared experiences.

My Background

My Story

While completing an MBA in my late twenties, I had a change of heart. I realized that I wanted to help others in ways that previous jobs had not allowed. As my career purpose shifted, I began pursuing work that was more people-centered.

One of the most important questions anyone asked me during that period was also one of the simplest, ‘What do you want to learn?’ I realized then that whether we are aware of it or not, we all make profound choices each day about the conversations we choose to have and how we grow from those conversations. And I had to face the fact that I wasn’t focused on learning the things that would matter most to me, both in my own life and in the lives of those I cared about.

With this in mind, I decided to step in a dramatically different direction. Over time, this decision has allowed me to integrate my prior experience in business and management with a greater focus on the art of leading people, both in groups and organizations as well as in individual psychotherapy.

My leadership practice began at the Harvard Kennedy School where I trained in Adaptive Leadership. And it has continued ever since. One of the gifts that I have found in the teaching and practice of leadership, is that you can’t help others change without facing some of the same questions and challenges in your own personal or professional life. In this sense, the work is deeply personal and growth-promoting.

Real change also requires a commitment to prioritizing trust and relationships. After all, we learn most effectively when we are in conversation with trusted others, and those bonds are deep and reliable. Therefore, building trust is foundational to all of the work that I do.
