Psychotherapy & Contemporary Psychoanalysis

As a therapist, I believe in our ability to heal from our past experiences.  We each have innate capacities of resilience and strength, often beyond what we even recognize.  As a therapist, I also know that these capacities are strengthened with a helping hand.  We all grow through trusted relationships in which both parties can understand one another at a deep level.

This principle guides the way I think about building a therapeutic environment that is conducive to growth.  In addition, openness, honesty and a desire to explore your experience in a compassionate way are also essential.  Therapy does take time, but it can produce profound change and I enjoy being a partner in your growth.

Therapeutic Approach: I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy and contemporary psychoanalysis for individuals and couples, which I also integrate with other psychotherapy modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy.

If you are new to psychotherapy, a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approach means that we will look holistically at your life and work to understand your strengths and how to leverage those to help you grow, as well as patterns of behavior (or beliefs) that may have evolved earlier in your life to respond to certain situations back then, but may be holding you back in the present.

I also integrate certain cognitive behavioral methods and trauma modalities depending on your circumstances and life history. I find that an integrative, adaptable approach to therapy is the most conducive to helping each person grow in their own unique ways.

Specialities: I work with all types of people and provide treatment for a wide variety of issues. In addition to common problems like anxiety and depression, I have a particular interest and speciality in these issues: questions of identity and difference, trauma, relationship conflict, grief & mourning, adoption and ADHD.

Leadership Development

I offer individual coaching and targeted practice groups for professionals looking to deepen their understanding and practice of leadership in their organizations. I am trained in the Adaptive Leadership model, developed at the Harvard Kennedy School, and also teach leadership and facilitate groups at the NYU Silver School of Social Work’s Adaptive Leadership in the Human Services Institute.
