Living in Multiple Worlds: A Group for Mixed-Race People
An 8-week group, starting in mid-October, dates TBD. (Virtual or at 156th 5th Ave. Suite 1134, NY, NY.)
Those of us who grow up in mixed race or mixed cultural families face unique challenges. Moving between different worlds and cultures means adapting ourselves to new environments constantly and often leaving a part of ourselves behind each time we do so. While we learn skills in the process that may be valuable in our lives and help us attune to different environments, it can come at a cost. And for many of us, it can be outright agony.
Under the guidance of an experienced group facilitator, this 10-week group is an opportunity to:
Meet and bond with others who have faced similar challenges navigating multiple worlds
Explore parts of ourselves that were confusing, shameful or hidden, perhaps in a desire to “fit in”
Practice, in a supported environment, giving voice to those parts
Learn from other’s journeys around identity, culture and race

Deepening Leadership Practice: A Symposium For Social Work & Human Service Professionals
My team from NYU led this symposium on Adaptive Leadership in the social sector, including workshops on diagnosing the organizational systems in which we work. You can see the full description here.
Synopsis: Social workers and human service professionals are at the forefront of catalyzing needed change for their clients, within their agencies, and in their communities. Yet as changemakers, we face daunting systemic challenges that can lead to feelings of disillusionment, and burnout. The purpose of this one-day advanced leadership program is to strengthen the capacity of human service professionals to facilitate adaptive change and bring about progress on these difficult challenges.
The symposium will be guided primarily by the adaptive leadership framework, which defines leadership as an activity that is focused on engaging and mobilizing others in addressing challenges without easy answers.
The program is designed to deepen understanding of adaptive leadership ideas while helping root these concepts more firmly into everyday practice. The symposium will also be a space for building community with other practitioners who wish to support each other through the difficult challenges of leading.
